ACCORDION FESTIVAL «Palanga 2011»

June 29 - July 5 are the days when Lithuanian Accordionists Association (LAA) and the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre (LMTA) are organizing a traditional International Accordion Festival Seminar in Palanga.

This years‘ festival will be held not during the traditional time, but during the first half of the summer. However it will be held in the traditional area at S. Vainiunas School of Music Hall (8 Maironis Street). Jazz, original contemporary music, transcriptions of classical music examples, light-pop music are the colors of a seven-day long Accordion Festival-Seminar.

During this years‘ Festival-Seminar accordionists from Russia, Latvia and Belarus will give their concerts. Among them is the accordion duet YAVA BAND (Russia) - Vladimir Popolzin and Yana Fedoruk. The duet mostly performs V. Popolzins' compositions. Also, unique interpretations of famous songs. During 2008-2010 they have organized concert tours in Germany. In the year of 2010 the duet released their debut album. During the same year YAVA BAND won the first prize in Italy at the Castelfidardo International Accordion Competition.

Instrumental ensemble SUBITO from Belarus will perform their colorful program during the concert. Music by Vitaliy Dmitriev (Russia) - a significant and well known performer will also sound during the Festival. We will meet a young artist of a light music Kristaps Ginters (Latvia). The students soloists and accordion ensembles of Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre will give their performances, too.

This years' event once again invit worlds' well known accordion teachers, who will give the open master classes at S. Vainiunas School of Music. They will read the reports on relevant methodological issues. There will also be various discussions. During the seminar there will work professors from Great Britain and Russia. Accordion teaching methods and performance art experience will be shared by the London Royal Academy Professor Owen Murray (Great Britain). The music professor Andrey Ledeniov from Moscow State A.G. Schnittke Institute (Russia) will also give master classes to our countrys‘ young accordionists. Master classes will be given by the educator Vitalij Dmitriev (Russia) from the State St. Petersburg University of Culture and arts. During the seminar-practicum will also work the Lithuanian Academy of Music and Theatre accordion pedagogues professor Eduardas Gabnys, professor Ričardas Sviackevičius and associate professor Raimondas Sviackevičius. The academy students will be presenting classical music recitals and other performances.
